
Jobs to Build On (JTBO) is a collaboration between The New York City Council, the Office of Continuing Education , CEWD and the Consortium for Worker Edication (CWE). JTBO offers free certificate classes and employment development services to the unemployed population.
Certificates are available for EMT-B, Accounting, Patient Care Technician, Clinical Medical Assistant, Child Care, Certified Nurse Aide, EKG Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Certified Mental Health Technician, Phlebotomy Technician, Insurance and Paralegal.
JTBO provides a full array of support services including internships, counseling and job placement that are available both on campus and to community-based groups. Participants also have access to technology labs and library resources.
Training is offered by credentialed faculty who have both strong industry experience and advanced education in the topical area of instruction. Many of the certificate programs are constructed in a credit/non-credit model offering students the option of advanced college standing should they wish to continue towards a degree.
To qualify participants:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must live within the five boroughs.
- Must have valid ID proving NY City residence
- Must be unemployed or working part-time making under $9/hr
- Must be reading above the 11th grade level
- Must be able to work in the United States
- Must be willing to accept employment
- Must be able to cover personal transportation and/ or child care costs throughout training
- Must be able to commit to the training schedule for the entire program
