Education Resources

Kingsborough Community College’s Office of Continuing Education through New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance offers the Educational Resource program to residents of New York, particularly of Brooklyn.

The main purpose of the Educational Resource program is to address the educational and training needs of TANF-eligible population to improve employability and job retention. This program is offered free of charge to qualified candidates.

  • English as a Second Language
  • Medical Office Management & Billing
  • Computerized Bookkeeping & Accounting
  • Computer Applications for Modern Business
  • Certified EKG Technician
  • Phlebotomy Technician
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician
  • Personal Care Technician

Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Educational Resource the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a US Citizen or Refugee or Asylee, or Cuban/Haitian Entrant or a Resident for 5+ years
  • AND
  • Have a child under the age of 18 or be a pregnant woman or be married to a pregnant woman
  • AND
  • Have low income or receive Food Stamps, Medicaid, HEAP or SSI.

Job readiness workshops and Job Fairs are provided to participants on a regular basis, and vocational counselors assist students in developing work skills, for instance, resume preparation, interviewing techniques, and business communications. Staff will keep in contact with participants after placement in employment for up to 90 days after hire. Applicants may return to us at any time if additional post-employment services are needed.
